Youth Day of Caring

Nancy Jackson Memorial Youth Day of CaringReturn to Volunteer >>

To foster a sense of community and a love of volunteerism at a young age, our United Way holds the annual Nancy Jackson Memorial Youth Day of Caring as a school-based volunteer experience for students in grades 7-12 each spring, sponsored by NBT Bank. The event was renamed in honor of Nancy Jackson Matthews who founded Youth Day of Caring in 2001 and served as the program's chair each year until she passed away in 2016.

The students complete a variety of projects ranging from light landscaping and cleaning to client interaction and office work. The day will conclude with a picnic lunch at the Greater Scranton YMCA sponsored by Gerrity's and Moses Taylor Hospital.

This year's Youth Day of Caring is being held on Thursday, May 23, 2019. Check out some of the great photos from last year's event!
