We are honored to serve as Co-Chairs for the Wayne County Division of the United Way Campaign. As always it has really been an eye-opening experience.

The United Way is committed to investing in the programs and services that make a difference for everyone who calls Wayne County home. During the past 10 years, more than $500,000 has been distributed to more than a dozen organizations providing these important programs to Wayne County. During the same decade, the overall impact of the United Way in Wayne county is over $1 million.

It is truly amazing how many ways your gift helps the people of Wayne County every day.  Please consider the following examples:

  • Emergency fuel assistance was provided to 50 families, while eight families received assistance for rent and food from Catholic Social Services.
  • Wayne County Area Agency on Aging was able to provide heating/cooling systems and mobility solutions for 34 older adults.
  • Because of United Way funding, 3,248 toddlers and preschoolers were able to attend early literacy programs at the Wayne County Public Library, while an additional 1,969 attended through staff outreach at child and preschool centers.
  • Approximately 1,560 households received fresh fruit and vegetables fromt he Wayne County Food Pantry to go along with their meals.
  • Victims' Intervention Program provided almost 900 hours of crisis and counseling services in schools to over 110 children.
  • United Way grant money helped improve the safety of over 15,000 people protected by the Honesdale Fire Department with the purchase of safe and effective tools for the department to operate.
  • An upgrade to their automated external defibrillator funded by the United Way provided a safe environment for the 2,100 community members of the Wayne County YMCA.
